Embakasi East Member of Parliament, Babu Owino, has advanced from a white belt to a blue belt in karate. This achievement was earned through his participation in a special karate competition held at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani Stadium during the weekend.
Babu Owino left onlookers astonished as he demonstrated his remarkable karate skills in this competition, which tested his dedication, discipline, and ability to face challenges.
During the event, he expressed, “I came here for my grading, and I’d like to point out that I can’t use Hassan Mandonga’s famous line ‘Sugunyo’ because it belongs to him, and he’s a boxer, not a karate practitioner like myself. I’ve progressed from a white belt to a blue belt.”
This event was named the 2023 Patron’s Karate Championship and was organized by the World Authority Traditional Karate Association of Kenya (WATKA) from September 30th to October 1st, 2023, with participants coming from all 47 counties.
It’s worth noting that Babu Owino has also been serving as the event’s patron since his appointment in December 2022. The World Authority Traditional Karate Association of Kenya (WATKA) is led by Engineer Richard Binga.
