Kisii Governor Simba Arati has strongly rebuked Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for suggesting that the State might withdraw security details from county governors in order to compel them to “behave appropriately.”

Arati’s comments come nearly two months after the State withdrew security personnel from Azimio Governors Anyang Nyong’o (Kisumu), James Orengo (Siaya), Gladys Wanga (Homa Bay), and Ochilo Ayacko (Migori).

Speaking in Kisii County during the unveiling of the region’s industrial park, Arati emphasized that he does not require State security to carry out his duties. He also added that if Gachagua were to act on his threat, the Kenyan public is more than capable of providing him with the necessary security support.

In Arati’s words, “The other person says governors must conform to receive security personnel. I don’t need police officers; the citizens are sufficient as security. I won’t change my behavior to please the Deputy President. I will continue to fulfill my mandate with integrity. How can 47 governors bow down to the demands of just five governors, give up their security, and surrender their weapons? What is your intention? We don’t need those security personnel; we cannot accept such intimidation.”

Arati also expressed his support for Trade Cabinet Secretary (CS) Moses Kuria, who has faced criticism for his confrontational approach in addressing concerns about the government’s decision to raise fuel prices.

He stated, “Sometimes, being candid is good; Honorable, if you’ve had a bit too much to drink, just take it easy, don’t overdo it, address these people with restraint. Moses is the one telling them the truth. Speak up, tell them the truth, and the truth will remain, especially for that person who insults us. Stand firm; we will stand by you. If they expel you from that side to come to our side, we will collaborate and see how we can take over the government.”
