KCB FC kicked off their FKF Premier League season on a winning note at the Kasarani Stadium on Friday, narrowly defeating AFC Leopards 1-0. Derrick Otanga netted the decisive goal late in the game, marking his first of the season and securing the Bankers’ first victory. Leopards concluded the match with a numerical disadvantage, with Musa Oundo receiving a red card.
KCB had initially been scheduled to commence their season last weekend, but their match was postponed due to their opponents, Kakamega Homeboyz, participating in the CAF Confederation Cup in Libya.
This was an ideal start for KCB’s newly appointed head coach, Bernard Mwalala, who took over from the long-serving Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno before the season began.
Leopards conceded the only goal from a corner due to a miscommunication between goalkeeper Maxwell Mulili and captain Washington Munene.
Oundo was dismissed for a second yellow card offense, reducing the 12-time Premier League champions to ten players and leaving them without a win after two rounds of matches in the new season.
In other matches, Police FC suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat against Posta Rangers, Nzoia Sugar played to a 1-1 draw against Muhoroni Youth, Shabana also settled for a 1-1 draw against Talanta, and Bandari emerged as 1-0 winners against Sofapaka, bouncing back from their home loss in the opening match against Tusker last weekend.
