The hairdresser who had been missing for two weeks has been tragically discovered murdered, her body abandoned in a pit latrine in the Mlolongo area, just a short distance from where she worked. The lifeless remains of Jane Mwende Mwanzia, a 29-year-old woman, were found following information provided by the suspects, who had been apprehended by the police.
Previously, the individuals arrested in connection with Mwende’s disappearance had deceived the investigators by leading them to the Magongo forest in the Wote area of Makueni County. However, in a surprising twist, they later altered their account, guiding the police to Kiserian before eventually revealing the actual location where Jane Mwende’s body was discovered in Mlolongo.
For the past two weeks, family members, friends, and coworkers of Mwende had been desperately searching for her, checking numerous police stations, hospitals, and morgues without any success. Jane Mwende had received a phone call early on the morning of Friday, August 25th, from an individual posing as a client requesting her hairdressing services at their residence. She left and never returned.
Winnie Munyau, a fellow hairdresser at the salon, recalled, “She received a call in the morning around 3 or 4 o’clock. When she left, she didn’t say where she was going. She just took her phone and left.” Jennifer Mwende, another colleague at the salon, added, “She left from here, but she didn’t say where she was going.”
Concerns escalated when Jane failed to show up for work the next day, and her phone remained switched off. Her disappearance became evident when she did not collect her child from her Yatta home in Machakos after the August holiday.
Now, the police at the Mlolongo Police Station are investigating a possible connection between Jane’s disappearance and a love triangle, as well as her involvement in the real estate business. It is alleged that Jane and another woman in Mlolongo town were involved in a dispute over a man who has already been questioned by the police. Interestingly, the other woman has not been seen in Mlolongo town since Jane’s disappearance.
