“National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi is urging the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to initiate a probe into the assault on Njeri Maina, the Kirinyaga Woman Representative. Wandayi insists that the investigation should focus on Kirinyaga County Governor Anne Waiguru’s potential involvement in the incident. According to claims, the attackers, who arrived in three Toyota Probox vehicles, allegedly acted on instructions from the county government. Wandayi demands that Waiguru be summoned by the DCI to provide a statement and potentially face legal action if found responsible.
During a parliamentary session, Ugunja MP Wandayi emphasized the need to condemn all forms of violence and to swiftly investigate and take action against those responsible for this attack. Kisii Woman Representative Dorice Donya first brought up the issue in the House, recounting that Njeri was attacked by rowdy youths while addressing a function related to a closed water project. Despite Donya’s efforts to arrange for medical assistance, only an ambulance was sent.
Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah confirmed that Njeri is in stable condition and called for a thorough investigation to hold the culprits accountable. Dagoretti South MP John Kiarie emphasized the importance of uncovering those who orchestrated the attack, suggesting a chain of accountability leading to the masterminds.
Bumula legislator Wamboka Nelson proposed summoning Interior Security Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki to provide additional information about the incident.
Njeri Maina was seriously injured after being struck by a stone on her head. She was initially taken to Kerugoya County Referral Hospital and subsequently transferred to Nairobi Hospital for treatment.”
