A 40-year-old resident of Mwea, Kirinyaga County tragically lost his life on Tuesday while attempting to intervene in a physical altercation between two of his friends who were quarreling over Ksh.50.
According to police reports, Cyrus Muthuri was struck on the head with a blunt object while trying to separate Patrick Kimathi, aged 40, and Peter Muchiri, aged 43, during the incident. This incident took place at Kimbimbi stage along the Mwea-Embu highway.
James Mutua, the Police Commander of Mwea East Sub-County, informed Citizen Digital that Muthuri sustained severe head injuries, allegedly from being struck by Kimathi. The suspected assailant fled the scene as soon as Muthuri became unresponsive.
“We are currently searching for Patrick Kimathi, who fled immediately after the victim succumbed to serious head injuries. Peter Muchiri was also taken to Kimbimbi Sub-County Hospital due to head injuries,” stated the police chief.
A manhunt is currently underway to locate Kimathi, as confirmed by Mutua.
“The deceased has been transported to Kerugoya County Referral Hospital mortuary, awaiting a postmortem examination. We will press murder charges against the suspect once he is apprehended,” Mutua added.
