The Finance Act, 2023 appeal brought forth by Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah and others has been rejected by the Supreme Court. In a ruling issued on Friday, the highest court stated that it lacks the authority to consider the appeal and expressed doubt that the Court of Appeal’s decision resulted in significant injustice that would justify its jurisdiction.
The Supreme Court judges mentioned that the appeals initially intended for the Court of Appeal have already been filed and will be resolved within 60 days of the contested ruling. Additionally, the amended petition before the High Court is scheduled to commence in September 2023.
Furthermore, all submissions made by the applicants were removed from consideration as they were submitted after the stipulated deadline. The responses from the applicants were similarly disregarded.
In conclusion, the judges decreed, “The applicants’ Notice of Motion dated 5th August 2023 is hereby dismissed.”
